Chapter 302: A Different Kind of Monster
Chapter 302: A Different Kind of Monster
Parked a short distance away from the mansion, Yohan began weighing his options. This time, he had decided on something drastic—he would force his way in.
Normally, he preferred to act cautiously, carefully considering details like how many people might be inside the building.
Just from the guards patrolling the compound, he could already tell the place was heavily protected.
There was no way he could reach Hatoru without causing casualties, and this time, he was prepared for that.
The fact that the old man could live so lavishly in the middle of the city after murdering his parents only fueled Yohan’s anger even more.
Just as he was about to step out of the car, Gunjoo’s call came in.
That single call made him pause, allowing a bit of rationality to return to his mind.
He stared at the gate, wondering why no one else had done what he was about to do.
If Hatoru lived in a place like this, then surely the government knew about him.
Did that mean they couldn’t touch him?
’In that case, he could easily call the police... and in the end, I’d be painted as the villain.’
What was he supposed to do then, fight the police too?
If he truly wanted to go through with this, failure wasn’t an option. And because of that, he knew he couldn’t just charge in recklessly.
’It’d be easier if I got some help from Gunjoo.’
That way, Yohan could focus entirely on Hatoru while the others kept everyone else occupied.
...
Yohan pushed open the door to the loan shark’s office.
"You’re finally here," Gunjoo said, rising to his feet.
"Yeah, you called and I came running," Yohan replied playfully before noticing another person in the room.
"Nice to see you again," Alfredo said as he stood up and offered Yohan a handshake.
Yohan’s brows furrowed slightly.
"Forgive my impatience. I just couldn’t wait until you reached out."
Yohan accepted the handshake without saying a word.
"Gunjoo, could you give us a moment?" Alfredo asked with a friendly smile.
He adjusted his glittering jacket, the kind that looked like something only movie stars would wear.
Gunjoo glanced at Yohan for confirmation.
"It’s fine," Yohan said.
After receiving the signal, Gunjoo left the office and closed the door behind him.
"What do you want from me?" Yohan asked directly.
"Nothing really. I’m just curious about what kind of man you are. I might even be able to help you with a few things."
"Why?" Yohan pressed.
He had no doubt Alfredo wanted information about the Wellness Technique guide. By now, Yohan had learned that people like this always acted with an agenda.
"You can’t seriously expect me to believe you came all this way just to help me."
"Why not? You’re like my junior. Isn’t that what elders do? First, tell me what your special technique is."
"Why?" Yohan’s gaze sharpened.
"Mine is called Body Control. It’s a special technique that allows me to control every single part of my body at the absolute peak of human capability. I’m guessing yours is something similar?"
Yohan remained silent, but the uneasiness in his expression gave enough away.
"There are a few mythical technique masters who can imitate Body Control, but none of them compare to the original. I can manipulate my voice with masterful precision. I can even stop myself from feeling pain if I choose to. I can break my own bones and set them back into place..."
He continued listing abilities until finally stopping.
"I’ve laid myself bare before you. Whether you believe me or not is up to you."
"Why would you reveal your trump card like that?" Yohan asked.
"Because—"
"Because you’re confident you can take me down regardless," Yohan answered for him.
A grin spread across Alfredo’s face, different from the friendly smile he had worn earlier.
"It seems you’ve got brains as well. That means you must be an exceptional master. The book must be revealing new skills to you every day. Though, I suppose it mostly depends on your insight, so in the end it’s still somewhat random."
His carefree attitude only convinced Yohan that his suspicion had been correct.
’In that case...’
"My technique is called the Wellness Technique," Yohan said calmly.
"W-What?" Alfredo froze in shock.
"It’s a technique focused primarily on the body’s well-being," Yohan continued.
For several seconds, Alfredo said nothing. His eyes remained fixed on Yohan’s unwavering gaze.
"Are you trying to tell me you’re also confident in your abilities?"
"No. I’m only showing you that I’m not afraid of you. Besides, I don’t want you thinking you’ve given me some sort of advantage. At least now we’re even."
Alfredo nodded slowly in admiration.
Deep down, he could tell Yohan wasn’t bluffing. He was someone capable of standing against anyone—or at least someone who truly believed he could.
"Yohan, it was my mistake to underestimate you. You’re a master in your own right."
Yohan didn’t care for the compliments. Right now, he was simply trying to make the best decisions possible.
And his instincts were telling him there was more behind Alfredo approaching him like this.
"Next time, let’s meet somewhere more comfortable so we can get to know each other better," Alfredo said before heading toward the door.
"Before I go, what do you know about the Baker? I’m new in town, so I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting him yet."
"Me neither," Yohan replied sharply.
"That’s a shame."
With that, Alfredo opened the door and left.
A short while later, Gunjoo returned to the office.
"What did he say?"
"Nothing," Yohan answered softly.
There was no need to involve Gunjoo in something like this.
"Who exactly is he?" he asked
"Alfredo was the last member to join Mason’s Blackfire organization, but he became second-in-command purely because of his strength. You should stay away from that guy. He’s a different kind of monster."
"So am I," Yohan replied with cold confidence. "And I’m not going to let anyone push me around,"
